After a day in NYC we continued on down the eastern seaboard to our final destination: South Carolina. After a day in NYC we continued on down the eastern seaboard to our final destination: South Carolina. Most of the time we spent using our beach-front condo as a conduit to lazing on the beach between ultra-touristy excursions (Ripley’s Aquarium, Medieval Times(!)). Myrtle Beach itself I didn’t really find especially inspiring in terms of photography, so a day-trip to Charleston (on what ended up being our last day of the trip) was very welcome. Charleston is gorgeous; the abundance of Italianate architecture makes it as Europe with palm trees. The accents are like honey and Southern hospitality made me feel like I was raised in a barn. If it hadn’t been for the overwhelming humidity, I might never have come home. Here are just a few pictures from those days, as well as the Hurricane Irene-themed drive home.

I’m up to my neck in photo editing and catching up on the various other things that accumulated while I was away, as well as starting to plan the next steps for my business (excitement!), but instead of talking about that I wanted to share a little video from the weekend. On Sunday I finally made it to the Small Craft Aquatic Centre to go kayaking… the first time all season! And it turns out, it was the last day they were open for the season, so I felt extremely lucky – I’d never been kayaking before moving to Fredericton and it quickly emerged as one of my favourite activities,  so I’m so glad that the year didn’t pass without a trip out on the water.

Among the things I brought back from my trip were a new G12 camera and waterproof case for my off-land adventures, so I was excited to play with that, and I had fun taking plenty of photos of the trip. The camera also shoots video, and I haven’t had a camera that shoots video since 2009, how novel! All this is to say, here’s a little moving picture.

Concrete jungles where dreams are made. I want to be a part of it. The first stop on vacation. 12 hours making the most of our MetroCard and our feet, covering nearly 30 km plus a “harbour tour” on the Staten Island Ferry. Since this was my first time in New York (other than once in 2005 when I took a Greyhound bus through the city in the middle of the night), we mostly kept to the obvious things, and did lots of sightseeing. (The only stop not pictured is the B&H Photo Video where I spent about an hour and the majority of my allotted budget. Photographers, if you’re visiting NYC and want to stay financially solvent, I suggest skipping it. It’s too awesome.)

Here are some of my favourite images from the day, including my trip on the ferry, various subway trips, Wall Street and Charging Bull, Trinity Churchyard, Ground Zero, The Met, 5th Avenue, Central Park, Strawberry Fields, the Dakota, New York Public Library, Grand Central Terminal, the Empire State Building, and, of course, Times Square. We had a Traditional-with-pepperoni at John’s Pizzeria for dinner, and after getting caught in an epic storm, capped the day with a drink and jazz show at the Village Vanguard.

I slept well that night. Enjoy.

This past weekend AG and I escaped up to Côte-Sainte-Anne for a restful weekend for a lot of eating, a lot of reading, and not much else. Burrowing my body deep into the sand and my face deep into a book left little time for photography, but here are a few snaps.

This past weekend we went for a roadtrip through southern New Brunswick, picking up friend M at the airport at 8 pm on Friday night and jamming in as many sights as we could fit before dropping her back off at 6 pm on Sunday. Moncton, Shediac, the Fundy Trail Parkway, Saint John, an unplanned detour through St. Stephen and Highway 3 (not pictured), to the Hopewell Rocks. And then for us, back to Fredericton. We’re all drived out, but it was an awesome trip. Here are some pics. (Another post with portraits of M is still to come…)

This weekend I was also playing with a tilt-shift lens I’ve rented, so you might notice some unusual perspectives!
