August,

You were a long month that felt really short. It began with my final wedding of the summer wedding season (a great way to start! What a day), and then segued into late-summer-fun times interspersed with Working.Really.Hard to get my business in shape to… abandon it for nearly 2 weeks. You see, back at Christmas my mom decided she wanted to gift our family with a family vacation – the first I’ve ever taken as an adult. And she picked the dates. That’s how I ended up leaving the country for two weekends in the middle of plum wedding season to tour NYC and frolic on Myrtle Beach. More on that later. In August I began sponsoring the website A Practical Wedding, which I’m totally jazzed about, and my work was featured in the Maritime Wedding Directory, the WeddingWire Blog, and Fab You Bliss, as well as Matt Andersen’s newly updated website! And of course I also updated my own website with a snazzy new section for wedding and engagement photography. It’s very exciting for me to see my work starting to spread, and I couldn’t be happier.

xoxo,

I love the way Margot laughs with Dominic. (I love how much Margot laughs, in general). I love the way Dominic looks at Margot. (I love the way Dominic looks, in general (Alan Rickman lite, am I right?)). I love that they brought me a plumcot. Can’t wait for the wedding.

This summer has been full of small adventures, but right now I’m on my biggest one yet. I’m on a family vacation (for the first time since I’ve been an adult!), and if you follow me on Twitter you know that I’ve already driven 2100 km down the eastern seaboard, stopping in NYC along the [...]

This summer has been full of small adventures, but right now I’m on my biggest one yet. I’m on a family vacation (for the first time since I’ve been an adult!), and if you follow me on Twitter you know that I’ve already driven 2100 km down the eastern seaboard, stopping in NYC along the way. I set this post up in advance because I plan on doing ABSOLUTELY.NO.WORK on vacation (you know, like people with “day jobs” do?), so as you read this, I’m probably laying on the beach. Or stuffing my face full of something enormous and American.

I’ll be back in a week.

As we loaded up the car and hit the road that particular Saturday morning, it was raining like crazy and I had resigned myself to my first rainy day wedding (hey, it had to happen sometime!). Approaching Sussex the sky cleared, and I became optimistic, but ultimately the bad weather found us once again… just in time for Julie & Josh’s planned forest ceremony. Rain fell in torrents, and Julie serenely remarked that it was okay, the forest needed the rain more than she needed the forest. A new plan formed, rearrangements were swiftly made…

And that’s how this beautiful, eco-conscious, creative-casual-hippie-chic, vegetarian couple got married in a hunting lodge under the watchful eye of a bear skin.

It’s a great story, and I’m recounting it here because I’m pretty sure that all anyone who was actually at the ceremony is going to remember is how Julie & Josh sang their vows to each other, and we all bawled our eyes out. Seriously.

(Afterwards the sun came out and we got to visit the forest after all.)

This wedding was full of beautiful, personal touches, from the edible flowers that topped our vegetarian meals to the giant mushroom that was the guestbook. There was plenty to love about Julie & Josh’s wedding, so enjoy these images. For best results, listen to the song they sang for their vows as you’re viewing. As we left the site, it came on the radio…

A few weeks ago, before she was even here, I was in bed trying to fall asleep when it came to me: the perfect thing to write about Marieke for her blog post. Exactly the thing that would convey her adventurous spirit; kind demeanor; zest for life. Then I fell asleep. All I was left with [...]

A few weeks ago, before she was even here, I was in bed trying to fall asleep when it came to me: the perfect thing to write about Marieke for her blog post. Exactly the thing that would convey her adventurous spirit; kind demeanor; zest for life. Then I fell asleep. All I was left with was the knowledge that Marieke is a great friend and that 29 will be her best year yet.
