My first portrait session as hibou photo took place two years ago today! I can’t believe how time has flown by, and how every opportunity makes me feel so lucky to be able to do this job.

Anyone who has followed this blog for any length of time knows that my first client was Sam, someone whose initial maternity photos have turned into a lasting photographic relationship that has she and her family popping up here every few months. I’m so lucky to have this woman as a client, cheerleader, and friend, so it’s only fitting that I should celebrate this occasion by posting the images we created two weeks ago. A new client is on the way…

This past weekend we went for a roadtrip through southern New Brunswick, picking up friend M at the airport at 8 pm on Friday night and jamming in as many sights as we could fit before dropping her back off at 6 pm on Sunday. Moncton, Shediac, the Fundy Trail Parkway, Saint John, an unplanned detour through St. Stephen and Highway 3 (not pictured), to the Hopewell Rocks. And then for us, back to Fredericton. We’re all drived out, but it was an awesome trip. Here are some pics. (Another post with portraits of M is still to come…)

This weekend I was also playing with a tilt-shift lens I’ve rented, so you might notice some unusual perspectives!

I covered a lot of ground this past weekend. 1,167 kilometres to be precise. You better believe there are pictures to come.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of using Batch+ for the first time. It’s the new Photoshop script from Code & Hustle, currently in beta release, and I can report that it is awesome. In 3 hours I had edited an amount of photos that would typically take me several days to finish. My mind was blown. I’m so excited for what this could mean for my business: more time to focus on actual photography and customer service, and of course in this age of instant gratification, anything that hastens turnaround is more than welcome.

Then just after I was coming down from my “LOOK AT WHAT I JUST DID!!” adrenalin high and closed down Photoshop, the power went out. It’s like everything was telling me to step away from the computer; that I’d earned a break. So I knit this little guy for my friend’s baby shower. Every child needs a stuffed tiger to love.

She must have had a vision,” Courtney’s mother said, while creating the table centrepieces out of bottles that Courtney and sister Tallyia had been digging out of the local fields for years.

Isn’t it incredible, the way the community has come together?,” Andrew’s sister said, while taking me on a tour of the grounds, so that I could observe the way the granary had been turned into a bar; the way friends and neighbours were bustling to prepare food in the makeshift kitchen; the tablewares that were borrowed from the local church; the high school students who had come out to act as servers.

Nothing can get me down today, everything is perfect,” Courtney said, as Blake pulled her hair into a frothy, retro-inspired confection.

I can’t imagine anything having gone better than it did today,” Andrew said during his speech, with a happy tear rolling down Courtney’s cheek.

Best. Wedding. Ever.” said a party-goer, face full of joy.

Indeed.

Courtney & Andrew, from your happiness and that of your parents; from the beautiful and meaningful decor, and magnificent spread of food; to the custom designed dresses; to the speeches which brought tears to many an eye; to the landscape around you… everything was perfect. I wish you all the love in the world.
