June,

I feel like I spent the entire month waiting for you to burst into the beautiful weather that was promised by the last few days of May. That never really happened, and suddenly you are over. (And 2011 is half-over, too. Yikes!) Nevertheless, I made the most of it: multiple excellent portrait sessions plus my first wedding of the summer; coffee and lunch dates galore with friends new and old; adventure trips to the Gagetown Fibre Fest, the Covered Bridge Potato Chips Factory in Hartland, the Potato World museum in Florenceville-Bristol; visiting family at the lake cottage; first bike rides of the season. Even the simple pleasure of editing images on my patio late into the evenings in the warm summer air. My veggie box has started arriving from Jemseg River Farms and I’m gorging myself on sweet strawberries and whipped cream (and hitting the trails near daily to make up for it). Happy for everything I have.

xoxo,

K

My first wedding of 2011 was a lot like my last wedding of 2010. I first met Chris as part of the bridal party for Scott & Sarah’s wedding back in December, so when he & Lynne approached me a few weeks later about photographing their wedding, I was all for it. Meeting up with this crew is a bit like hanging out with old friends – just fun and relaxed; not even minor setbacks like a broken-down limo could stop the good times! Locations: the ladies got ready at the Crowne Plaza Lord Beaverbrook, the wedding ceremony was at the gorgeous St. Dunstan’s Parish, and the reception was at the STU Conference Centre.

Lynne, you looked absolutely gorgeous. Chris, I’m proud of how well you held it together! And your bridal party is now the record holder for Most Requested Crotch Shots at a wedding. (You probably didn’t want “crotch shots” to be in the last sentence before your wedding photos…)

Thank you for having me. It was an honour to be part of your day, and I hope you enjoy the photos!

This week I’ve been undertaking the enormous task of cleaning up my harddrive and my blog (I am reblogging old posts using the awesome Storyboard script so that (1) they’ll match more recent posts, (2) images will be bigger, and (3) so I can clean up my folder of blogged images). This week I’ve been undertaking the enormous task of cleaning up my harddrive and my blog (I am reblogging old posts using the awesome Storyboard script so that (1) they’ll match more recent posts, (2) images will be bigger, and (3) so I can clean up my folder of blogged images). If there was ever a time to go diving through my archives, now would be it! Anyway, in the process of that I remembered that I had a vague intention to post more Holga images as I come across them, so here’s one from last summer’s vacation in Lunenburg!

Tomi and I have been talking about doing a shoot together since mid-April. And every single time we set a date, it got rained out. Most recently we arranged to meet up last two weeks ago, on a Thursday. The Wednesday before brought crazy, raging thunderstorms, and I was like “phew! dodged a bullet.” Thursday dawned bright and beautiful, we called game on, and I was psyched to do this thing. And we did! And the clouds began to gather. We changed locations and the wind picked up. And just as we finished up, the sky opened up, and I ran home in the pouring rain.

When I suggested the FREX site as a location, I had no idea that there was horse racing planned for the evening, but we ran with it and the shoot quickly went “day at the races.” Tomi models during downtime from her studies, and she rocks at it: blowing through poses and emotions effortlessly, reminding me of someone new every few minutes. You didn’t need me to tell you that she’s a model though, did you? You could tell just by looking at her. The face. The bone structure. The emotions. And the legs. Good grief, the legs. Tomi, you’re a treasure. Mother Nature clearly thinks we can’t handle your fierceness, but here it is anyway. Enjoy :)

I’ve long preferred my blog to my website in terms of presenting images in a cohesive manner. Since telling a story is a fundamental part of what I do as a wedding photographer, dumping all the best images into one big gallery and erasing all logical flow has never really made sense. On top of that, couples seeking a photographer increasingly – and rightly – want to view a full set of wedding images, not simply a few handpicked favs.

(Now, these new galleries are still curated – believe me, no one outside the wedding party & their family actually wants to see every single one of the hundreds of images that each wedding generates – but they give a broader view of my work over the course of a day).

So, I’m pleased to say that I will soon be adding a new section to my website, breaking my portfolio down by event; letting each wedding shine and giving the images room to breathe. Once it goes live I’d love to hear if you prefer this over the current arrangement… or even if you don’t!

And heck, fiddling with my website is one of my favourite pastimes, so who knows how long this will last until my next great idea…
